Softball splits road doubleheader with Bluefield to end season
Bluefield, Virginia - The St. Andrews Knights softball team split their road doubleheader against the Bluefield Rams Friday afternoon to close out their 2024 season.
In the first game, senior Meghan Fritz threw a complete game, keeping the Rams to only six hits and two earned runs, leading her team to a 4-2 victory. She also recorded four strikeouts during her outing. Charlee Mullins, Hailey Zimmerman, and Meghan Fritz each logged one hit apiece for the Knights. Combined with the six walks issues by Rams pitcher Hailie Cox, it was enough to propel the visiting team to victory.
During the second matchup of the afternoon, the Rams offense came out strong right out of the gate in the bottom of the first inning against Mullins, scoring three runs to jump out in front. The Knights struck back with two of their own in the third on a rally started by Olivia Plybon's single to left field. The Rams held the lead 9-3 going into the top of the seventh. The Knights were able to rally for three runs in their trip to the plate, but it was not enough to overtake their opponents. The Rams took the win, 9-5, splitting the doubleheader matchups.
The Knights finish their season, 9-39, 4-24.
