Day One Recap of Scotch Invitational

The Men's and Women's Golf teams host match kicked off this morning at the Scotch Meadow Country Club in Laurinburg, NC. Approximately 100 golfers were in action today, spanning across 12 colleges and "B" teams in competition. The Knights put on an excellent display of golf between both the Men's and Women's side and will look to continue their consistency on the final day tomorrow.

(Note: The Women's team for St. Andrews are participating as individuals and do not have a team score, although their individual score and placement is still registered.)

Starting with the men's side, it was truly St. Andrews who stole the show. Our current "Knight of the Week," Joe Hamilton (Sparta, KY) and Remo Scholl (Hessen, Germany) shot an even 72 which resulted in par for the course. Over the first round of play, Hamilton and Scholl currently lead the pack and are sitting in a dead tie for first place out of the entire field of competition on the men's side.

Not far behind you'll find another pair of Knights biting at the heels for the lead in Ramon Fernandez-Cano Alda (Madrid, Spain) and Seima Nishihara (Tokyo, Japan). Alda shot a superb 73 on the day, giving him a +1 score for the course and registering at T-3rd with three other golfers. Nishihara follows up right behind his teammate with a consistent 74 on the day placing him at +2 and currently sits at sole possession of 7th place in the tournament.

Preston Andrews (Chester, SC), Cole Hinson (Rock Hill, SC) and Carlton Grant Kinlaw (Sumter, SC) are the next batch of Knights you'll find as they together had a splendid day on the green. Andrews and Hinson stayed together throughout the day and each shot an impressive 78, good enough for a T-15th placement. Kinlaw was right behind his fellow Knights, as he finished the day at 79 and sat just ahead of the middle of the pack with a T-24 placement through the first round.

Kole Washleski (Douglassville, PA), Ezequiel Ruiz (Escobar, Argentina), Matthew Lefebvre (Fontana, CA) and Owen Talbot (Brockton, MA) are the next batch of Knights who were able to round out the top 40 in the men's division. Washleski shot himself a 79, good enough for a T-24th placing through day one, while Ruiz and Lefebvre followed up with an 80 scoreline, and currently stand at a T-30 placement. Owen Talbot rounds out the top 40 on the day with his score of 81.

Rounding out the St. Andrews competitors on the men's side was Noah Surth (Berlin, Germany), who currently sits in T-41, Matthew Song (Waxhaw, NC) who currently stands at T-45, and Luke Hood (Ellenboro, NC) Who sits in 60th place through day one.

The women's side welcomed 32 golfers who were representing five different schools on the day. Although they weren't playing for a team score, St. Andrews golfers Michaelah Wise (Lugoff, SC) and Erica Boyd (Charlotte, NC) played a tremendous 18 holes.

Wise finished with a score of 83 on the day and ended up going +11 on the course. For her efforts, Wise currently sits in T-9th placement and has cemented herself in the top 10 through day one.

Boyd was the only other competitor on the women's bracket accompanying Wise for St. Andrews, and shot a very consistent and solid round of golf on the day. Boyd currently sits in T-19th for her efforts as she ended with an 88 score and +16 above par.

Day two will start tomorrow with tee times beginning as early as 10:00 AM for the men's group and 9:00 AM for the women's side.
