Knights Face Challenge in Home Opener Against Union Commonwealth

Laurinburg, NC – In an exciting yet challenging first home game of the season, the St. Andrews Knights faced off against the Union Commonwealth (Ky.) team during a special Parents Weekend event. The atmosphere at the stadium was electric, with families and fans coming out to support the Knights. Unfortunately, the Knights fell short, losing the game 21-0.

A Tough Battle

The game kicked off with high hopes for the Knights, especially in front of their dedicated supporters. Early in the first quarter, Union Commonwealth took the lead with a 2-yard touchdown run by Jackson, followed by a successful extra point by Dustin Brown. The Knights responded with determination, but their offense faced challenges moving the ball effectively.

Despite the scoreboard, the Knights showed resilience throughout the game. St. Andrews managed to gain a total of 135 yards of offense, with notable contributions from running back Rodney Huggins, who rushed for 33 yards on 8 carries. Quarterback Kedrick Patterson connected on 4 of 9 passes for 35 yards, showcasing moments of promise in the passing game.

Defensively, Lavarius Heath-Lewis stood out with 8 total tackles, demonstrating leadership and tenacity. The Knights' defense worked hard to limit Union's big plays but ultimately struggled to stop the relentless rushing attack.

As the game progressed, Union extended their lead with two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, both coming from Jackson. St. Andrews' offense battled through the second half, but inconsistencies hampered their ability to score.

Despite the loss, the Knights remain optimistic as they head into the rest of the season. This first home game, coupled with Parents Weekend, served as a valuable experience for the team.
