St. Andrews Secures Series Win with 7-4 Victory in Game 3
LAURINBURG, NC – St. Andrews University wrapped up a successful three-game series with a 7-4 win over Truett McConnell University on March 1, 2025. The Knights clinched the series victory, taking two out of three games, with a well-rounded effort that included timely hitting and strong pitching.
Game 1: SAU 6- TMU 3
St. Andrews struck early and maintained control throughout the game, securing a 6-3 win over their opponent. The Knights got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Aiden Wilson’s clutch single brought home Cesar Morillo, giving St. Andrews a 1-0 lead. The momentum continued in the third inning, as Garrett Hamby doubled to drive in Wilson, extending the lead to 2-0.
In the fourth, Morillo delivered a double that scored Josh Osborne, further solidifying St. Andrews' dominance with a 3-0 advantage. However, the pivotal moment came in the seventh inning when Garrett Wolff, already a key contributor, crushed a three-run homer to center field, driving in Hamby and Kanan Treece. The home run extended the Knights' lead to 6-1, putting the game well out of reach.
On the mound, starter Noah Sorrells earned the win, delivering 7 strong innings in which he allowed just one run on eight hits and struck out eight. Donald Gorgei finished the game with two innings of work, giving up two runs but closing out the win for St. Andrews.
Game 2: SAU 6- TMU 8
St. Andrews showed impressive resilience, rallying late in the game with two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth. However, their efforts fell short as they couldn’t overcome Truett McConnell’s lead, losing 5-4.
Cesar Morillo contributed offensively, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Garrett Hamby also had a solid 1-for-3 outing, driving in two RBIs, while Isaiah Martin and Adrian Ojea added RBI singles to fuel the late comeback attempt. Despite the offensive surge, St. Andrews couldn’t close the gap.
On the mound, starter Josh Hill allowed five earned runs over 5.1 innings. He was relieved by CJ Harrison, who gave up three more runs in 1.1 innings. Patrick Linck threw 2.1 scoreless innings to finish strong for the Knights.
Despite the late rally, St. Andrews was unable to overcome the deficit, falling 5-4.
Game 3: SAU 5- TMU 4
St. Andrews University (NC) edged out Truett McConnell College 5-4 in a closely contested Game 3. The Knights' offense, led by Aiden Wilson and Kanan Treece, delivered in key moments, while Tyler Barfield provided a strong outing on the mound.
Wilson ignited the offense with a solo home run in the first inning and later contributed a sacrifice fly in the fifth to bring home Cesar Morillo for the game-winning run. Treece's clutch two-RBI single in the third put St. Andrews ahead 4-3, and they never trailed again.
Barfield pitched seven solid innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits, striking out six, and limiting walks. Despite a late push from Truett McConnell, St. Andrews held on for the win, thanks to timely hitting and strong defensive plays.
With the victory, St. Andrews continues to build momentum, relying on key contributions from both their offense and pitching staff to secure the narrow win.
