Bristol, VA- The St. Andrews Men's Golf team finished in 7th place out of 12 teams at the Virginia Intermont Invitational (AAC Fall Championship) after two days of competition on the par 71 course.
The Knights had a score of 629 and finished just 21 strokes behind the champion Tennessee Wesleyan.
Freshman Robbie Wilkie finished in a tie for 8th as he improved by five shots in round 2 shooting a 73 for a total of 151 which was one stroke better than SAU 9th place finisher, junior Andrew Primeau, who shot a 74 today. Sophomore Matthew DeGiorgio came next as his two day total of 154 put him in a tie for 12th while senior Matthew Latham shot 79 to put him in a tie for 15th at 155.
Trevor Banks of VA Intermont won the tournament by a landslide as his 69 on day 2 made him the only golfer to finish under par.
Other Knight golfers placing high included junior Dakota Brown, who came in at 27th place with a 161 while freshman James Simms was alone in 36th with a score of 163. Freshman Patrick McCleary improved his score by 10 strokes on day 2 to finish in 42nd with a 88-78 week. Junior Matthew Forbis also did much better on day 2 as he improved by 12 strokes on his day one score for a total of 168. Sophomore Ben Martinez shot an 84 today for a two day total of 174 for 57th place. Richard Caisley then came in 61st with a 176 in the 75 player field.
There were 9 teams out of the 12 team field from the AAC.
St. Andrews is next in action when they travel to nearby Whispering Pines, NC to play in the Sandhills Invitational on October 8-9 with tee times scheduled for 12:45 PM. The Invitational is hosted by Sandhills CC.
