Columbia, SC— Led by freshman goalkeeper Brittany Roberts' second career shutout, the St. Andrews University women's soccer team edged the Columbia College Koalas 1-0 Wednesday night for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference win in school history.
Freshman Catrin Anderson-Hayman scored the winning goal in the first half for the Lady Knights and SAU held on for the win as the always-reliable Roberts closed it out by making save after save throughout the game. The goal was Anderson-Hayman's third of the season.
Columbia fired 7 shots on goal against Roberts and she pushed them all aside.
Most of the Koala shots were wide or not on net as SAU's stout defense kept Columbia from getting any decent shots off. St. Andrews kept pushing the pace throughout the second half but just could not push across that insurance goal they were looking for. However, it was not needed on this night as Roberts made her presence felt.
Roberts now has 81 saves on the season.
The Lady Knights improved to 3-3-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in the conference while Columbia falls to 7-4-1 and 2-2-1 in the AAC.
SAU will finally get some much-deserved rest before traveling back down to Georgia to complete their season-long five game road trip and face conference rival Point University October 2 at 3 PM.
