Lincoln, NE- The St. Andrews University women's golf team made the final cut at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb. at the NAIA National tournament on Friday as they shot their second consecutive 331 on Thursday to finish in 17th place (out of 27) with a team score of 989. They then completed the tournament by shooting a 330 on Friday in the final round to finish 17th overall with a 4 day team score 1319 (327-331-331-330).
Head Coach William Carter was also told that St. Andrews is the first ever team from the Appalachian Athletic Conference to make the final cut at the National tournament.
SCAD-Savannah and Oklahoma City won the team title at Nationals by tying for the final score of 1209.
The Lady Knights were led by AAC Tournament champion Laura Kinsman (JR/Whispering Pines, NC) who sat in 26th place heading into the final round today before shooting an 83 to finish in 40th place after previously shooting rounds of 75, 81, and 79 for a total score of 318 (+30 over par). Alazne Urizar won the individual title for SCAD-Savannah by shooting a 291 (+3 over par) (76-71-73-71).
Freshman Paige Hartman (FR/Clovis, NM) finished in second place on the team and 55th overall by shooting her best round of the tournament with an 80 to finish with a 327 (84-81-82-80) while Gabriella Cidras (FR/Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) finished in 74th with a 338 (85-84-83-86). Senior Sadiyya Gillespie (SR/Sicklerville, NJ) finished her career by also shooting her best round of the week with an 81 to improve her placement to 69th (3rd on the team) with a 336 (83-85-87-81) while Madison Moore (FR/Tarboro, NC) then came in 85th (out of 140) with a 353 (85-86-89-93).
Gillespie was also honored with the National Tournament's Champions of Character award which was presented to Sadiyya at the conclusion of the event. Pictures and more info to follow soon.
