Kingsport, Tenn.- The #4 seed St. Andrews University baseball team lost 5-3 to regular season champion and top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon to be eliminated and finish in 5th place at the AAC Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn.
The Knights finished their second straight winning season at 27-23, but fell just a couple runs away from the conference semifinals. Tennessee Wesleyan (33-21) will now advance to face Bryan College (31-26) in the semifinals today at 2 pm with the winner clinching their bid to nationals.
TWC, led by Brad Carpenter's three RBIs, scored 4 runs off Knights starter Jordan Blair (JR/Huntersville, NC) (1-5) in the bottom of the first to stake themselves to a big 4-0 lead which SAU could not recover from the rest of the game. St. Andrews brought in reliever Max Everingham (SR/El Dorado Hills, CA) after the first and he only allowed one run over the next 6 and 1/3 innings while junior D'Aundray VanSlyke (JR/Vaughn, WA) also threw a scoreless inning of relief.
The Knights offense even managed to outhit TWC 12-6 in the game, but left 11 men on base as the team struggled to string hits together to overcome their deficit. Outfielder Kyle Schade (JR/Dunkirk, MD) led the team going 3 for 3 with a double while four other Knights had two hits apiece including catcher Daniel Whitecavage (SR/Huntersville, NC)'s double and 2 RBIs. Also recording two hits were 2B Richard Campolong (SR/Jacksonville, NC), DH Matthew Beauchemin (JR/Pembroke Pines, FL), and 1B Tyler Jordan (SR/Statesville, NC).
