Laurinburg, NC - The St. Andrews University Baseball team lost game one of their conference doubleheader 7-2 against Point University (Ga.) on Friday afternoon before dropping game two by a score of 7-3. The Knights then fell 7-6 in 10 innings in the final game on Saturday.

The Knights gave up 2 runs in the first inning, as pitcher Joe McCarty (SR/Martinez, GA) (5-6) held the Skyhawks scoreless for the following four innings.

St. Andrews returned to score two more runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game. However, in the sixth inning, the Skyhawks made a crushing comeback and scored 5 runs. The Knights couldn't recover and fell 7-2.

Centerfielder Tyler Radcliff (JR/Burgaw, NC) went 3 for 3 in the first game with a double and a run while senior Daniel Whitecavage (SR/Huntersville, NC) also went 3 for 4 in game one, with a triple and an RBI.

McCarty pitched 5 innings, throwing 2 strikeouts, and giving up 5 hits, 1 walk and 4 earned runs.

St. Andrews then lost game two 7-3 on Friday evening which saw pitcher Chris Fee (JR/Orlando, FL) suffer his first loss of the season (8-1).

The second game started out with each team scoring a run by the third inning.  The fifth inning took a toll on the Knights, as the Skyhawks scored 4 more runs, making the score 5-1.

The Knights retaliated in the sixth, scoring two more runs, but Point countered with another two runs to pick up the win.  Fee went 5 and 1/3 innings, throwing 3 strike outs, and gave up 7 hits, 1 walk and only 2 earned runs out of 7.

Radcliff & outfielder D'Aundray VanSlyke (JR/Vaughn, WA) both went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI each as Radcliff recorded 5 hits on the day. Radcliff is currently on a 5 game hitting streak while also getting 20 hits in his last 40 at-bats to up his average to .340, second on the team.

St. Andrews then lost a heartbreaker of a game to the Skyhawks on Saturday falling 7-6 in 10 innings after rallying with 5 runs in the 7th to tie the game at 6.

After three scoreless innings between the teams, Point finally got to SAU starter Jordan Blair (JR/Huntersville, NC) for three runs in his 3 plus innings of work. Point would then extend their lead to 6-1 over the next few innings off reliever Max Everingham (SR/El Dorado Hills, CA). Everingham (4-4) would then settle down to throw three more scoreless innings the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the Knights offense was putting 5 runs on the board in the 7th via a Matthew Beauchemin (JR/Pembroke Pines, FL) RBI single, a passed ball, and a two-run single by Richard Campolong (SR/Jacksonville, NC) who finally came around to score on an error to knot the game at 6.

Unfortunately, Point loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the tenth and eventually won it on a pinch-hit single to sweep the Knights. St. Andrews and Point (27-23) now each have identical 13-13 conference records as they sit in a tie for fifth in the conference with one game to go.

St. Andrews (25-21) will next finish their regular season with a home makeup game vs. Milligan College (22-24, 12-14) on Wednesday at 3 pm.
