Kingsport, Tenn.- The St. Andrews University softball team's stunning tournament run came to an unfortunate end on Friday afternoon as the Lady Knights fell 8-0 to Bryan College in the Loser's Bracket finale at Domtar Park in Kingsport, Tenn.
The Lady Lions of Bryan (29-22) also clinched the AAC's second and final bid to the NAIA National Tournament with the win while the Knights finish in third place at 18-25. Freshman catcher Brooke Sikes (FR/Warrenton, NC) and junior outfielder Mary Cross (JR/Middleburg, FL) were also selected to the All-tournament team for their quality play throughout the week. Cross was actually on a six-game hitting streak until it came to an end on Friday, but still had multiple hits in four of her last 6 games to increase her average to .279 while Sikes was instrumental in the Knight's tournament run with her go-ahead RBIs and her defense behind the plate.
In a game that was delayed by more than two and a half hours because of rain, the Lions opened a 7-0 lead in the third inning with home runs and run-scoring doubles off starter Kimberly Cook (FR/Ocean Isle Beach, NC) (8-10) and reliever Kori Ballard (FR/Kersaw, SC) and never looked back. Bryan's starting pitcher Katie Sims was dominant in the victory, allowing just two hits in six innings of work.
At the conclusion of the Tournament, an All-Tournament Team was selected. It lists as follows:
Reinhardt: C.J. Browder, Randi Wimpy, Maddy Luck (MVP)
Bryan: Olivia Gore, Becca Zimmerman, Katie Sims
St. Andrews: Brooke Sikes, Mary Cross
