It was announced today by the Appalachian Athletic Conference that St. Andrews University softball player Kori Ballard (FR, Kersaw, SC) and baseball player Michael Durig (SR, Valrico, FL) were named as the conference Players of the Week in their respective sports.
Ballard, a freshman helped lead the Lady Knights (11-15) to three wins on the week with her stellar batting. Not only did she have four homers and 15 RBIs during the week, she also hit three home runs along with 9 RBIs in the record setting win over Truett-McConnell on Tuesday. In that win SAU scored a school record 22 runs in the game. Ballard also had 9 hits during the week as she continues to lead the team in average at .390, slugging % at .701, home runs with 5 and RBIs with 32. She is also second in the conference in RBIs and fifth in triples with 2.
Durig, a senior, helped lead St. Andrews (13-9) to seven wins in their last 8 games with his stellar week. Durig hit three home runs in the week and had 15 RBIs as St. Andrews swept the series from Montreat, won 2 out of 3 vs. Bryan College, and beat Div. II members Benedict and Pfeiffer College. He is currently leading the team in homers with 3, RBIs with 19, 2nd in total bases with 35, and third in slugging % at .507, He has also pitched 9 innings this season with 10 strikeouts.
SAU Baseball will be back in action on Thursday at 2 pm to host Erskine College while Softball is off until Mar. 28.
