Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews University men's basketball team was not able to slow down Virginia Intermont's powerful offense on Wednesday evening as the Cobras shot their way past the Knights 85-67.
VI senior forward Josh Hart, who is leading the conference in points per game scored 26 on 3 of 5 shooting from 3-point range while Javon Price scored 20 on 8 of 11 shooting as four Cobras were in double figures. VI shot 54 percent in both halves as they never seemed to take their foot off the gas.
St. Andrews was able to keep up in the first half holding the Cobras to just 38 points as SAU shot 48 percent and cut the halftime deficit to 6. The Knights then only made 11 shots in the second half as they were forced to foul VI to catch up, but the Cobras made 21 of 27 free throws to win.
Freshman guard Titus Gary led the Knights with 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting (5 of 8 from three) along with 5 steals while junior forward Marko Zjacic had 13 points and 5 rebounds. Junior guard Aaron Smith was also in double figues with 14 points.
St. Andrews falls to 3-14 overall and 2-11 AAC with the loss while VI improves to 9-13 overall and 7-7 AAC.
The Knights are next in action on Saturday when they play at Tennessee Wesleyan (13-11) at 2 pm before traveling to Reinhardt (Ga.) on Sunday. St. Andrews topped TWC earlier this year 67-66 at home.
