Macon, Ga.- During the St. Andrews University Men's basketball team's recent road trip to Macon, Ga., head coach Andrew Brown set up the opportunity for Dr. Henry Ficklin, pastor of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Macon and a member of Macon City Council to speak with the team on the importance of academics and becoming a successful young man in life beyond just basketball. He tried to influence them and motivate them in life and how to carry yourself after their competing is done.

Dr. Ficklin attended the Bibb County Public Schools (Ga.) and graduated from Peter G. Appling High School. Subsequently, he attended Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, TX. He graduated cum laude with an A.A. Degree in Biology. He attended Abilene Christian University, (TX) and earned a B.A. Degree in Government and Political Science with a minor in Bible (Religion).

Further study by Dr. Ficklin includes attendance at Georgia College and State University where he obtained Teacher Certification in Social Studies and where he earned a Master of Education Degree. Postgraduate study includes attendance at Georgia Southwestern University where he earned Certification in Economics (Free Enterprise), and attendance at Mercer University where he obtained Certification. Dr. Ficklin's postgraduate study also includes attendance at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education—The Media and American Democracy, and attendance at Georgia College and State University where he obtained Certification in Educational Leadership. Dr. Ficklin obtained a Doctoral Degree in Administration from Mercer University, Tift College of Education the summer of 2010.
