West Point, Ga.- The St. Andrews University men's basketball team dropped their first conference game of the season on Wednesday night by a score of 77-63 to Point University (Ga.).
The men got off to a good start as they led by 9 points in the first 5 minutes of play, but then Point began to hit their shots as they crept back into the game with 47% shooting in the first half on their way to a 12 point halftime lead. Unfortunately, the Knights struggled shooting their outside shot as they went 0 for 7 on three-pointers in the first half and then could only muster one three in the second half whereas the Skyhawks were 6 for 9 on threes in the first half which catapulted them back into the lead. Point cooled off a bit in the second half but still shot an impressive 47% from behind-the-arc in the game.
St. Andrews was led, though, by junior forward Marko Zjacic's team leading 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists while freshman forward Nathaniel Pittman had 10 points and 9 boards but fouled out late. Point guard Aaron Smith also was in double-figure scoring with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Junior guard Jibri Banner also led in steals with 2 along with 6 points.
Point (2-5, 1-1) was led by Brandon Wright's team-leading 21 points and 11 rebounds while 3 others were also in double figures scoring for the Skyhawks. Point was very balanced in their shooting as 19 of their 41 total shot attempts were from 3-point range.
St. Andrews will next return home to host conference foe Bryan College (1-4) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
