Dayton, TN- The St. Andrews University cross country teams competed at the AAC Championships on Saturday at Bryan College's Fort Bluff Camp course in Dayton, TN and came away with 6th place finishes.
The Nationally ranked #8 Bryan College men's team finished in first with 25 points while Tennessee Wesleyan came in second as both teams qualified for nationals. Milligan came in third followed by Truett-McConnell and SCAD-Atlanta, and then the Knights with 176 points. SAU finished ahead of 3 conference schools.
Leading the SAU men was junior Tyler Beaver as he came in 20th overall with a time of 26:07 while freshman Danzel Jefferson was 29th in 27:07. Freshman Ryan Hughart was next in 42nd with a time of 27:51 while fellow freshman Justin Brown was 45th in 28:02. Sophomore Cannon Heath also competed coming in 54th in 28:50 while freshman Michael Hare and Chase Kopp also competed.
On the women's side, the Lady Knights also came in 6th place overall and finished ahead of 3 conference teams with 156 points. #18 Milligan College took first with 21 points while Tenn. Wesleyan came in 2nd followed by Point, SCAD, and Truett.
Leading the Lady Knights was freshman Ashley Barrera with a 23rd place finish and a quality time of 21:22 while sophomore Kaityln Stempien came in 29th in 22:08. Freshman Kara Thornton was next in 36th in 22:29 and she was followed by senior leader Karlee Arnold in 45th with a time of 23:13. Morgan Tedder was the final scorer for the Knights in 53rd with a time of 24:14 while sophomore Emily Scott was 56th just 4 seconds behind.
Lauren Grindstaff of Milligan won the 5K in 18:49 while Anthony Simpson of Bryan won the men's 8K in 24:12.
