Elizabethton, TN-- The #29 ranked St. Andrews Men's Golf team finished the first part of the AAC Fall Conference Championships in 6th place in the team standings after shooting a 300 in the first round and a 303 in the second round. The Knights ended up just two strokes out of fifth place and 15 off of 3rd place.
Milligan won the first part with a 561 and were followed by Tennessee Wesleyan, Reinhardt, Union, and SCAD Atlanta.
Leading the Knights after the first round was junior Tom Clutton who shot a 72 while senior Matthew Latham and freshman Daniel Wieck each shot 75s. Senior Matthew Forbis also shot a 78 while junior Ben Martinez shot 80 to round out the scoring. Other Knights to play were Dakota Brown who shot 73 and James Simms who shot 81.
In round 2, the top scorer for SAU was the returning All-American, Latham, who shot a 74 while Forbis shot a 75, Martinez a 76, Clutton a 78, and Wieck an 81. Individually, Brown came back with a 76 while Simms shot 82.
Latham and Brown both finished in a tie for 18th place overall (+5) while Clutton was in 21st with Forbis in 27th and Martinez and Wieck in a tie for 37th.
Cameron Dugger of Milligan won the event by one stroke by shooting a 68 in round 2.
The Knight will next host a home tournament when they play in the St. Andrews Fall Invitational at Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen, NC Nov. 4-5.
Note: These are only the first two rounds of the conference championships. Rounds 3 and 4 are to be played in April to complete the event.
