Rome, GA- The St. Andrews University Men's Golf team finished in second place overall at the Chik-fil-A Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Stonebridge GC and Coosa Country Club in Rome, GA.

St. Andrews shot an even par 288 on day one and then tied for the top team score on day 2 with a 290, but still fell by 2 strokes 578-576 to team champion Oglethorpe University (GA).

However, the Knights did manage to finish higher than not only every Appalachian Athletic Conference school that competed, but also all 12 NAIA schools in the field which is a great accomplishment in itself.

Leading the men again was returning senior All-American Matthew Latham who shot two rounds of 71 for a 142 total score and a runner-up finish as he came 3 strokes behind the individual champion from Oglethorpe. The next top finisher for SAU was freshman Daniel Wieck who came in 5th overall with rounds of 71 and 73 while junior Tom Clutton finished in a tie for 13th with rounds of 72 and 75 (147).

Latham and Wieck were also named to the All-Tournament team for their accomplishments as well.

Finishing in 4th on the SAU team and in a tie for 18th overall was junior Ben Martinez who shot his first ever under par collegiate round as his 71 on day 2 was enough to propel him 40 spots up the leaderboard after a 77 on day one. Senior Matthew Forbis was next in 33rd with a 74 and 76 for a 150 which was another great score. Finally for the Knights there was senior Dakota Brown who shot 80 and 79 to come in 97th place out of the 155 man field.

The team champion of the tournament was Oglethorpe, a Division 3 school in Atlanta who finished with a score of 576 while their own, Anthony Amodeo was the individual champion by shooting 69-70 for a total score of 139 (-5 under par).

The men are next in action this coming weekend, Oct. 7 and 8th when they will travel to Pineville, KY to partake in the Union College Bulldog Fall Invitational at Wasiota Winds G
