Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews University volleyball team battled a non-conference foe in Johnson & Wales University (Charlotte) on Tuesday evening and came out with a decisive four set victory at Harris Court.
SAU took the first set convincingly 25-18, but the Wildcats rallied back to top the Knights 25-23 in set two as they came back from a 6 point deficit deep into the set.
St. Andrews would then come back strong and consistently outhit the Wildcats over the next two sets by the same score of 25-17 to achieve their 6th win of the season and improve to 6-9 while J&W fell to 10-6.
The Lady Knights were led by their frontline hitters again as freshmen Tessa Smith and Anne Patterson and senior Kendelyn Wheaton combined for 35 of the Knights' 51 kills on the evening. Wheaton led with 13 kills and 3 blocks while Smith had 12 and Patterson had 10. SAU was then led by a balanced attack of kills from 5 different girls including 4 from current player of the week Nora Darrhar and 3 apiece from junior Taylor Clay and sophomores Raven Prather, Chelsea Dean, and Alexis Cordova.
Cordova and freshman Sullivan Owens combined for 41 assists while senior Ayanna Lindborg led with 25 digs. Darrhar also had 2 aces and 15 digs on the night.
The Lady Knights will continue their long homestand when they host conference foe Point University (Ga.) (6-8) at 6:30 pm on Friday evening before turning around to host conference stalwart Union College (9-4) on Saturday.
