St. Simons Island, GA- The St. Andrews University golf teams had a decent showing over the last two days at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational.
The men finished the first day of the event in 5th place out of 13 teams after shooting combined rounds of 305 and 300 over the first two rounds of play among their top five golfers.
However, they fell back to the pack some in round 3 as they shot 311 as a team for a three-round, two- day total of 916 which put them in a tie for 8th place overall.
Leading the men again was returning All-American Matthew Latham who shot rounds of 72-71-73 (216) for an even par finish and in 6th place overall. The next top finisher for SAU was freshman Tom Clutton who shot rounds of 73-78-82 (233) for a 29th place finish while fellow freshman Daniel Wieck came in third on the Knights team and 38th overall with rounds of 79-77-79 (235).
Finishing next for the men were senior Andrew Primeau who shot rounds of 82-75-80, senior Dakota Brown (81-77-79), and junior Ben Martinez (80-77-80) who all tied at 237 for a 43rd place finish.
Rounding out the mens' team was sophomore James Simms who shot 82-78-80 for a 53rd place finish, sophomore Patrick McCleary (80-82-86-248) for 59th place and senior Alex Smith who was 63rd with scores of 92-84-90.
The team champion of the Invitational was Lee University (TN) who finished with a score of 857 while the individual champion was Allen Bradford of Coastal Georgia who shot 69-72-68 for a total score of 209 (-7 under par).
The men are next in action on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 when they partake in the Chik-Fil-A Collegiate at Stonebridge Golf Course in Rome, GA.
