Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews University women's soccer team rallied back to top Milligan College 2-1 on sophomore forward Jessica Martinez's game winner in the 80th minute in the Lady Knights' home opener Tuesday afternoon.
Milligan got off to a quick lead as they scored just 12 minutes into the game. But SAU would not quit as they came out right after halftime with a beautiful goal by junior midfielder Rebekah Webster to knot the game at one.
It would remain tied until the 82nd minute when Martinez scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Webster.
The Lady Knights outshot the Buffaloes 13-11 overall including 10-7 in the second half on their way to a big conference win.
SAU goalkeepers Jessica Griffith and Brittany Roberts combined for 4 saves as each played a half.
Martinez led with 5 shots attempted while freshmen Alejandra Bittelman and Amanda Priest had three and two shots respectively.
With the win St. Andrews improves to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the AAC and moves into fourth place in the conference while Milligan falls to 2-4-1 and 1-2 in the league
The Lady Knights will continue their 3 game homestand when they host Reinhardt University (Ga.) (4-1, 1-0) on Saturday at 12 pm here at Knights Field.
