Greenville, SC- The St. Andrews University men's soccer team got off to a strong 2-0 lead over the Bob Jones University Bruins on Thursday evening and then had to hang on for the 2-1 win as the Knights picked up their first win of the season in Greenville.
Junior forward Caio Liberatti scored both goals for the Knights. He logged his first in the 27th minute off an assist from sophomore Breno Calegari. He scored his second goal in the 54th minute off an assist from junior midfielder Martin Phillips.
SAU then had to watch as BJU made a comeback scoring just 9 minutes later to cut their deficit in half.
However, that would be all that SAU freshman goalkeeper Leandro Custodio would give up as he made 5 saves to accomplish his first collegiate win of his career.
The Knights outshot the Bruins by a total of 23-19 as Liberatti also led in shots on goal with 5 while Andy Zimiso Stewart contributed 2 shots on goal.
The Knights (1-2) will next make the long trek to Dayton, TN to battle conference foe Bryan College (2-0) at 7:30 pm on Saturday.
