St. Andrews University Head Swimming Coach Brooks Teal has announced the signing of Georgi Krastev out of Northeast High School in Pinellas Park, Florida. Krastev swims for Coach Fred Lewis with St. Petersburg Aquatics and has had an outstanding club and high school career.
Georgi set school records at Northeast in 2010 in the 100 yard backstroke and the 100 yard fly and continues to hold those records. He also set city records in the same events in 2012. Krastev captured the 3A State High School Championship title in the 100 back at the highly competitive Florida High School Championships in 2011, earning him High School Athlete of the Week honors in December of 2011. Georgi served as captain of his high school team and was named to the Northeast High School's Hall of Fame for his stellar career.
Krastev has also been recognized for his hard work in the classroom, being named to the National Honor Society and graduating Summa Cum Laude from Northeast High School. Georgi plans to study Biology and pursue a Pre-Med degree at St. Andrews.
"Georgi is a great addition to our team. Not only is he a talented, hard-working swimmer who is still improving, he is a very conscientious, committed student who chose St. Andrews for our excellent educational opportunity. Georgi will make an immediate impact in the Fly and Back events, and could contribute in Freestyle as well. I am positive that he will be a leader for us in the pool and the classroom and I am very excited to have Georgi join the Knights."
