The St. Andrews University Swimming team and head coach Brooks Teal went overseas again to nab another international recruit, with Elliot Boon, from Somerset in the United Kingdom, signing with the Knights.
Boon is a sprint specialist, both as a freestyler and a breaststroker, that continues to add to the impressive sprint corps that will be a force for St. Andrews in the team's first year of competition.
Elliot has swum competitively since the age of 10, progressing from Club level to become a leading competitor at two of the UK's most prestigious swimming specialist schools. Boon was named to the County Squad for the past four years, and was selected to lead the Devon County team as captain in 2011. Elliot's versatility has enabled him to win the Open County Championship in five events, the 50 and 100 meter Free, the 100 and 200 meter Breast, and the 200 meter Individual Medley.
He has also been a Finalist at the ESSA Relays for the past five years, leading his relay team to medal finishes in both the free and medley relays each year. In 2012 and 2013, Boon was an Arena League Team Finalist. Outside of the pool, Elliot has a passion for music, cycling and skating.
"Attending an American University and competing in a USA collegiate swim program has been my goal and dream for the past 8 years, and I am excited and very proud to be joining the Knights squad!" says Boon.
"Elliot's passion for swimming has been impressive throughout the recruiting process," says Coach Teal. "He will bring great enthusiasm to our team, as well as leadership and the talent and ability to make an immediate impact in the sprint events and our relays. Relays score huge points at championship meets, and with Elliot joining forces with our other sprinters, our relays look to be a big strength for us at NAIA Nationals next year."
