The St. Andrews University Swim Team has added another member to next year's team, this time attracting a swimmer from South Africa, a country with a strong tradition of international swimming success. Head Coach Brooks Teal announced Wednesday the signing of Josh Dixon, from Durban, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.
Dixon was captain of his high school team, Kearsey College, where he was awarded honors for swimming. Josh had success in 2011 at the Provincial Championships, qualifying for the B Final in three events, and winning the B Final in the Men's Open 50m Butterfly. Dixon qualified for the Provincial Senior Nationals Team in 2012 and competed at the South African Senior Nationals in 2012. At the 2013 Senior Nationals, Josh won a gold medal in the youth category for 50m Butterfly and a bronze for 50m freestyle.
"Josh will add quality and depth in the sprint events for St. Andrews, in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly," says Coach Teal. "He is an up-and-coming versatile talent with lots of fast swimming ahead. With the addition of Josh to our program, our relays are really beginning to take shape. Josh's signing is great news for St. Andrews Swimming."
