Winchester, TN-- The St. Andrews University Men's Golf team put on a impressive display at the links over the last two days as they finished the AAC Conference tournament in 3rd place overall shooting an 879, just 9 strokes behind first place Milligan College.
However, the big story is that senior Matt Latham won the entire conference tournament with 3 rounds under par to finish at -7, 4 shots ahead of anyone else and qualify for the national tournament in May. Latham shot scores of 68,70, and 68 to win the event with a 206.
Latham was also named to the Conference All-tournament team and finished in 3rd place in player of the year balloting. Trevor Banks of Virginia Intermont took home those honors.
Also to be noted is that the "Champions of Character" award was won by St. Andrews as well.
Junior Matthew Forbis also helped lead the Knights to their third place overall finish by shooting a 69 in round 3 to finish at 221 (+8) and a tie for 10th place. Forbis shot 77-75-69 for the week.
Junior Dakota Brown fell off a little bit in round 3, but still managed a good week as he shot 70-73-80 to finish in a tie for 16th at 223. The team effort also included junior Andrew Primeau as he shot 76-80-77 for a 233 and a 31st place finish. Sophomore Ben Martinez rounded out the team as he came in 32nd with rounds of 78-82-76 for a 236.
Milligan won the team race while Tennessee Wesleyan College finished in 2nd just two strokes ahead of the Knights.
Latham will now prepare for the NAIA Nationals from May 14-17 in Salem, Oregon.
