Milligan, TN- The St. Andrews University baseball team rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday afternoon to win 5-4 and complete a thrilling comeback over the Milligan College Buffaloes.
The Buffaloes had limited the Knights to just 3 total runs all weekend and SAU promptly scored four in just one inning as they were able to steal a win and salvage game 3 of the conference series.
Milligan (17-18, 7-8) had beaten the Knights by identical 3-1 scores in both games of the doubleheader on Saturday.
After MC starter Tyler Watts threw 7 shutout innings only giving up 4 hits, the Buffaloes brought in Sean Robinson but he gave up 2 hits, 5 runs and then the lead as the Knights pounded him for one run in the 8th and then 4 in the ninth. However, the majority of the hits were off Milligan reliever Justin Johnson.
Sophomores Michael Luing and Matt Malik began the inning with singles before 2B Tyler Jordan reached on a fielders choice which forced a wild throw from Tarlton and brought in two runs cutting Milligan's deficit to one. The Knights' hottest hitter of the day, Rickey Schattauer then came to the plate and singled bringing home Jordan and tying the game at 4. Schattauer went 3 for 4 today with 2 RBIs. After CF Ryan Harrold singled and LF Matt McCue reached base, junior first basemen Daniel Whitecavage then came up and singled to the shortstop causing Schattauer to race home and beat the throw giving the Knights the 5-4 lead and eventual win.
John Allen Renn pitched and 6 and 1/3 innings for the Knights giving up just 3 runs with 3 strikeouts while SAU's top reliever Evan Tucker came in to close out the game giving up just one run over the final 2 and 2/3 innings to pick up the win.
