Laurinburg, NC – The St. Andrews University baseball team put on an impressive display of offensive power in blowing out the Greensboro College Pride today for a satisfying victory of 15-6 at Clark Field.

The Knights (13-11) scored in every inning but one on the Pride. Despite the steady rotating of the pitching staff, the St. Andrews offense was on fire at Clark Field.

In the bottom of the first was Tyler Jordan, scoring the first run of the game for SAU off of a double by first baseman Daniel Whitecavage. Although the Pride had already scored a run, the Knights broke the tie in the second inning with two runs scored by sophomore catcher Matt Malik and freshman right fielder Jeremy McDowell.

In the bottom of the third, leftfielder Michael Durig hit a monster home run for the Knights and set the stage for the fourth inning in which Whitecavage singled bringing shortstop Rickey Schattauer home. Durig then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in centerfielder Kortell Nixon, who now has 5 hits in his last two games. Whitecavage then scored off of Matthew Beauchemin's single giving the Knights a 7-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Whitecavage hit his second homerun of the season and of the game for the Knights.  Although the Pride proceeded to score 3 runs, the Knights offense played their most impressive inning of the game in the bottom of the seventh.

With third baseman Michael Luing, pinch runner Mikey Morgan, and McDowell on base, Schattauer singled, bringing in both Luing and Morgan. The bases were then loaded when Whitecavage came up to bat. Although the Knights were well ahead at this point, Whitecavage stunned the crowd with a flawless grand slam over the left field scoreboard on a 2-2 count, accumulating his second homerun of the game.

For the final run of the game, Luing tripled and scored off McDowell's ground out in the bottom of the eighth, concluding the game with a score of 15-6.

Senior pitcher John Allen Renn started for the Knights, giving up only two hits and a single run in the first two innings.  Junior Joe McCarty took over in the third inning, giving up one hit and no runs, grabbing the win for SAU. Pitchers Max Everingham, Kyle McCauley, Matt Walker and Evan Tucker all made appearances throughout the game, but sophomore Michael Durig closed the game, giving up a hit and no runs.

Whitecavage, however, stole the show with his homerun and grand slam against GC today. He went 4 for 5 with 7 RBIs, increasing his batting average to .293. Whitecavage has 18 RBIs, 3 homeruns and 9 doubles this season. Nixon and Schattauer both went 3 for 5 today while McDowell, Malik and Beauchemin all had multiple hits as well. The Knights had 19 hits against the Prides' 9.

St. Andrews next plays their conference rival, the Montreat Cavaliers (10-13), on Friday at 3 pm and continues with a 12 pm doubleheader on Saturday here at Clark Field.
