Nashville, TN – The St. Andrews University baseball team stumbled today with a 9-1 loss in their second game to the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans in Nashville, TN.
In the second game of the two-game series, St. Andrews pitcher Matthew Beauchemin started off the matinee giving up no hits in the first two innings.
Unfortunately, the Knights offense struggled to adjust to the Trojans pitching. SAU lost their chance at a lead when the Trojans scored the first run of the game off of Beauchemin in the third. TNU scored again in the fourth and fifth, after senior Andrew Pelfrey came in to relieve Beauchemin.
The Knights offense scored their first run in the top of the seventh, when Beauchemin singled and was brought in by right fielder Jeremy McDowell's base hit.
Freshman Evan Tucker took over mid inning but three runs were scored for TNU in the seventh, making the score 6-1. The Knights faltered the last two innings, allowing the Trojans to add 3 more runs in the eighth and failing to add any more runs to the Knights total.
Pelfrey took the loss for St. Andrews making his record 0-1 while Trevecca Nazarene pitcher Rob Rowland (3-1) pocketed the win.
McDowell led offensively for the Knights, going 2 for 3 and claimed the only RBI for SAU. Despite the scoring gap, TNU (12-10) collected 9 hits while SAU followed close behind with 7.
The Knights (11-9) return home this weekend to play a 3 game series against conference rival Virginia Intermont College (11-2) starting Saturday at 12pm.
