Misenheimer, NC- St. Andrews University baseball team dropped a heartbreaker to the Pfeiffer University Falcons 7-6 on Thursday afternoon in Misenheimer, NC.

St. Andrews trailed 7-5 entering the ninth inning before shortstop Rickey Schattauer singled in Michael Luing to trim the lead. However, Schattauer was left stranded on 2nd base as center fielder Ryan Harrold flew out to end the game.

The Knights were trailing the majority of the game and as they began to try and rally from an early 3-1 deficit. However, Pfeiffer just would not go away as their offense kept answering every SAU run with runs of their own. The Falcons extended their lead to 7-4 in the seventh until Michael Durig homered in the eighth to cut their lead to 2 but the Knights could not push across their tying run in the ninth.

St. Andrews received home runs today from Durig, his third, and Ryan Harrold, who hit his first as he went 2 for 5. Durig is now hitting .314 with 3 homers and 11 RBIs on the season. Junior second basemen Tyler Jordan also had a good day going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs as he extended his team-leading average to .448 and RBIs to 12. Sophomore DH Matthew Beauchemin, Durig, Jordan, Schattauer, and Luing all added doubles for the Knights with three of them knocking in runs.

SAU was outhit 12-9 as the Falcons' offense was able to push across some runs against the knights pitching. Joe McCarty (3-1) started the game for SAU but could only make it into the third inning before being relieved. He did record 3 strikeouts to up his team leading total to 17 while his ERA currently sits at 3.29. Pitchers Max Everingham and Kyle McCauley came on in relief of McCarty and threw a scoreless inning apiece.

Cole McGraw led Pfeiffers' offense with his 3 for 4 day and 3 RBIs while starter Josh Branch held the Knights to just 4 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings with 6 strikeouts.

St. Andrews drops to 9-2 with the hard-luck loss while the NCAA Div. 2 and former Conference Carolinas rival Pfeiffer improves to 3-12.

SAU is next in action when they travel to Athens, TN this weekend to challenge the defending NAIA national champions from Tennessee Wesleyan (11-4) in the Knights' first conference action of the season. First pitch of the three game series is scheduled for 12 pm on Sunday.
