Men's Basketball - Tue, Feb. 26, 2013 by Troy Baranik

Kingsport, TN- Even though the St. Andrews basketball teams were eliminated in the conference tournaments last week, three of their players were able to garner postseason awards.

On the women's side, senior guard Rachel Hewitt (Kokomo, IN) was named to the AAC all-academic team as she had a 3.8 GPA.

On the men's side, standout freshman center Chris Orr (Gainesville, GA) who finished second in the conference in blocks (58) and blocks/game with 2.15 was named to the AAC All-Freshman team, which is the top accolade a player could receive as a freshman.

Orr finished with 58 blocks this season while also averaging 8.6 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game to lead the team. Orr also had a season-high of 7 blocks on Jan. 16 in the Knights' buzzer-beating loss to VA Intermont.

Orr finished the season ranked 9th in the NAIA in blocks per game with 2.1 while ranking 10th in total blocks and helped lead the Knights to a first round upset of Montreat College in the conference tournament.

The other member of the men's basketball team to receive an award was sophomore forward Marquie Smith (Lillington, NC) who was named to the AAC all-academic team. Smith finished the year ranking 7th in the AAC in blocks/game with 0.88 and total blocks with 22. Smith also averaged 7 points/game for the year and was one of the top three-point shooters on the team as he finished at 35.4 % from behind the arc.
