Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews University women's basketball rolled to their fourth win of the season in their home finale Monday evening as they topped Morris College 87-72.
The Lady Knights were led by senior Benee Norton's team-leading 24 points (11 of 22 shooting) and 7 rebounds while forward Alexus Davis recorded her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. The Knights had 4 players score in double figures and they also included senior forward Kimayah Fulcher who scored 13 points while freshman point guard Mercedes Smith had a nice all-around game with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals. Norton and Davis had 2 steals as well.
The Knights shot a very impressive 60.7 % from the field in the game while Davis and Smith were 6 of 8 from the field (75%) to lead the team. Morris could only manage a 39% shooting % from the field in the first half as SAU took a 6 point lead into the half. SAU then shot 50% from 3-point-range in the second half as they continued to pile on the points and roll to their fourth win.
Forward Jayla Moon led Morris with 23 points and 8 rebounds as the Hornets fell to 2-24 on the season.
SAU finished their regular season at 4-24 and will now prepare to face Montreat College (17-12) in their third rematch of the season on Wednesday in Kingsport, Tenn. in their first round of the AAC tournament. Tip-off is set for 1:45 pm.
