Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews University Baseball team used their offense to sweep the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins Saturday afternoon as they rolled to a 12-5 win in game 1 and a dominating 5-1 win in game 2.

Catcher Daniel Whitecavage led the Knights with 4 RBIs and hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, his first on the year. Senior left fielder Matt McCue went 2 for 2 with a double while sophomore 3B Michael Luing hit 2 doubles, driving in one. Sophomore first basemen Michael Durig also chipped in 3 RBIs while Jeremy McDowell hit a two-run double.

McCue stole his team-leading fourth base of the year as well while junior 2B Tyler Jordan had  a multiple hit day, going 2 for 4.

After SAU put up 4 runs in the 2nd inning, the Marlins came right back with 3 of their own in the third before Knights starter Ryan Pierce was pulled. The bullpen of Joe McCarty (3-0) and John Allen Renn then combined to only give up 2 runs (1 earned) the rest of the way with McCarty picking up his third  win of the season.

Game 2 was all about pitching as starter Max Everingham (1-0) pitched seven 1 run innings only giving up 2 hits with 6 strikeouts as he completely shut down VWC's offense.

Whitecavage went 2 for 4 in game two to lead the offense while DH Matthew Beauchemin and 3B Luing both had 2 RBIs apiece with Luing's 2 run single giving SAU some much needed insurance runs in the fifth.

St. Andrews now improves to 6-1 on the season as they have won five in a row and will next host West Virginia Tech at home Feb. 16 at 12 pm in a doubleheader.

Their game vs. NC Wesleyan at home on Wednesday is now postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on March 26.
