Men's Basketball - Thu, Feb. 7, 2013 by Troy Baranik

Montreat, NC- The St. Andrews University men's and women's basketball teams lost both games against Montreat Wednesday evening with the women falling 79-53 and the men losing 106-83.

The men, unfortunately, could not continue their momentum from last week's exciting win and lost a hard-fought battle to the Cavaliers. Although, it wasn't because of bad play on the Knights' part. Montreat just shot the ball out of the gym as they were able to shoot 63% for the game as they put up 50 points per half. Any team that can shoot that well will be hard to beat.

Montreat was led by their conference-leading scorer Labris Adams' 29 points and 9 assists as he was 12 of 20 from the field. The Cavaliers had 6 players in double-figure scoring including a double-double from Shaquille Symonette who had 21 points and 10 rebounds on 10 of 11 shooting.

The Knights got good performances from point guard DJ Carnegie who had 20 points and 4 assists while making 3 three-pointers and Clavontae Brown who had 16 points and 6 rebounds and was perfect from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Mark Chinn added 14 points while forward Marquie Smith had 9 points on 3-pointers.

SAU had a good day from the three-point line as they made 11 threes for a 47.8 shooting percentage. However, Montreat was 10 of 19 for 52% from three and were 66% in the first half and 61% in the second half.

St. Andrews falls to 1-21 and 1-13 while Montreat improves to 9-15 and 4-9.

SAU will return home this Saturday to face Bryan College at 2 pm.
