Men's Wrestling - Sun, Feb. 3, 2013 by Troy Baranik

Johnson City, TN- The St. Andrews University wrestling team looked great yesterday as their injury-depleted lineup was able to crush East Tennessee State and Southern Virginia University by combined scores of 79-30 Saturday afternoon in Tennessee.

The first match pitted the Knights against SVU, who also had struggling lineup as they forfeited 6 weights to St. Andrews giving SAU the 30-0 advantage to start the dual. However, SAU had to forfeit two of their middle weights due to injuries suffered last week, but the Knights were able to snag two of the three bouts wrestled in the match to win 48-12 as freshman Jared Key was able to score five takedowns on his way to a pin at 197 lbs. while sophomore Nick Sauceda dominated his bout 16-5 for the major decision victory.

The next match vs. ETSU featured forfeits as well including 157 lbs. which was a double forfeit. However, SAU rode 2 forfeits and three bonus point victories on their way to a 31-18 triumph. Leading SAU were senior Sterling Perry (141) and junior Chauncey Foster (125) who each scored technical falls in the second period. Foster crushed his guy 18-2 with 4 takedowns while Perry shutout his opponent 15-0. Key also pinned his opponent late in the third while Denzel Vaughan had to work for his win as he posted a 13-8 decision.

SAU (5-10) will now return home to host Liberty University at 7 pm on Wednesday evening here in Harris Court.
