Newport News, VA—The St. Andrews University Wrestling team traveled up to Newport News, VA on Saturday and came away with a 4th place finish at the Builder Invitational hosted by the Apprentice School, an NCWA opponent.

The tournament consisted of 18 teams from all over the east coast including various NCWA teams and NAIA schools. The host club, The Apprentice School (VA) won the invite with 97 points while Marion Military Institute (GA) finished in second with 85 points. SAU finished 4.5 points behind 3rd place Scranton (PA).

St. Andrews was led by a runner-up finish from 2012 NCWA All-American sophomore Denzel Vaughan at heavyweight as he lost a tough battle with Apprentice's Ian Jones 5-3. Jones was also an All-American last year.

SAU senior 133 pounder Josh Tegard also battled back for a true-second place finish as he went 2-1 on the day while freshman Jared Key fought back for an impressive 3rd place finish at 197. Sophomore Russell Lindsay had a decent day as well as he had a top 6 finish with a 56 second pin and a major decision for a 3-2 record. Lindsay now leads the team in pins with 6. Sophomore Kody Getkin (149) also went 2-2 on the day and now leads the team with 47 takedowns.

Freshman 235 pounder Davis Jones also recorded his first career collegiate pin and win as he placed 4th on the day.

The Knights wrestling team will finally return home when they host region foe and NAIA member Cumberland University (TN) on Jan. 31 in a special doubleheader over at Scotland High School in Laurinburg. Match time is set for approximately 6:30 pm or right after the Fighting Scots are done competing.
