Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews men's basketball team was back in action Wednesday night as they played host to Union College at Harris Court, but could not hold onto their second half lead for the third straight week and lost 102-81.
Senior guard Orlando Edwards led the Knights with his career-high 21 points (9 of 14 shooting) and 4 assists as SAU had 4 guys in double figures. Freshman center Chris Orr also played well as he recorded another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Junior guard Chris Clay had another good night as well as he was 4 of 7 from 3 point range for 14 points. Freshman point guard DJ Carnegie had a decent game as well with 10 points and a team-leading 5 assists.
After shooting 53% in the first half, SAU cooled off and could only manage 42% in the second half whereas Union was an impressive 67% from the field in the second half as they scored 65 points after struggling greatly in the first half. SAU was also 46% from behind-the-arc.
After running out to another double-digit lead, St. Andrews cooled off in the second half after shooting 53% in the first half as they watched their lead fade away.
Union was led by the impressive game of point guard Tarik Smith who had game highs of 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Forward Tyler Wagner also put up 25 for the Bulldogs.
SAU falls to 0-17 on the season and 0-9 in AAC play while Union improves to 9-11 and 3-6.
St. Andrews will finally get back on the road when they make the long trek down to western Georgia to battle conference power Point University on Saturday Jan. 26 at 3 PM.
