Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews University women's basketball team dropped a very tight game to nearby rival Columbia College 88-82 Saturday afternoon in conference action at Harris Court.
Senior forward Kimayah Fulcher posted her new career high in points today with 26, which was also a season high for any Lady Knight this year, but it was not enough in the end as SAU could not stop the Koalas' forward Krystal Morissette who had a monster game of 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 steals.
Columbia also had 2 other players score in the 20s as guard Kirby Norris had 24 points while forward Taylor Smith had 20 points as well.
After a somewhat low scoring first half where both teams struggled with their shots and only combined for 65 points, the offense finally broke out in the second half as the teams combined for 105 points. Both schools were able to shoot well over 50% in that half. Columbia was also 5 of 8 from 3 point-range overall.
SAU had 4 players score in double figures for the game as well with junior guard Rachel Hewitt, freshman guard Kerri Snipes, and freshman forward Alexus Davis all scoring 11-12 points overall. Those three, along with Fulcher, combined for 60 of the Knights' 82 points.
Davis led with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks as she finished with a double-double while freshman guard Mercedes Smith had 5 assists. Fulcher shot 9 of 14 from the field (64%) while Davis was 5 for 10, Snipes 4 for 6 and freshman guard Danielle Childress was perfect from behind-the-arc with 6 points.
SAU now falls to 3-15 and 1-8 in AAC play while Columbia improves to 6-15 and 3-6.
The Lady Knights continue their home stand when they host Union College next Wednesday Jan. 23 at 5:30 pm.
