Women's Basketball - Sun, Dec. 16, 2012 by Troy Baranik

Hartsville, SC—The St. Andrews Women's basketball team ran in to a buzz saw of a team on Sunday afternoon as Coker College raced out to a big first half lead on their way to a 89-51 victory sending SAU into the holiday break with a 3-8 record.

Freshman guard Danielle Childress led the Knights with 15 points as her array of five 3 pointers in the second half helped bring St. Andrews back into the game. It was a season high total for Childress and the most 3 pointers made by any Lady Knight this season. Junior forward Jazmyne Harvey also added 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals and was 5 of 6 from the free throw line while senior guard Tyler Knight had her season high of 10 points including 2 three pointers.

The Cobras (6-2) jumped out to an early lead, and never surrendered it. Coker shot 51 percent from the floor in the first half, and took a commanding halftime lead into the locker room. Coker was led by the 29 point game of forward Autumn Lau. Guard Angie Lawrence also had 6 steals to help lead Coker.

The second half proved to be much more competitive, though, as the Knights came out firing and scored 33 points in the final 20 minutes. The deficit however, was too much to overcome as Coker put up 37 second half points to preserve the victory.

St. Andrews was 36% from behind the arc as they shot much better from 3 than the Cobras as they could only muster a 23% shooting percentage from three-point range. SAU also got 10 steals off of 18 Coker turnovers and outscored Coker's bench 34-26 for the game.

The Lady Knights will now take a holiday break before returning home January 3 at 5:30 pm to challenge conference rival Milligan College who are 9-3 so far this year.
