Laurinburg, NC—The St. Andrews Women's basketball team raced out to a dominating 24-0 run to begin the second half on their way to a very impressive 71-45 victory over Warren Wilson College (NC) Friday evening in Harris Court.
It was St. Andrews' biggest margin of win since 2006. The Lady Knights (3-7) had two players get double-doubles as well with junior forward Ja'Quaia Caracter leading the way with 10 points and 12 rebounds while fellow junior forward Jazmyne Harvey had 10 points and 10 rebounds. SAU also had an astonishing 13 different players score tonight as the big win was a total team effort.
A tight first half saw the Lady Knights actually trail the Owls by 5 with about 7 minutes to go before going on a proficient 33-2 run to go up 55-29 with 10 minutes to go in the second half and put the game out of reach.
Freshman guard Danielle Childress led the Knights with three made three-pointers as she had 9 points for the game while junior guard Rachel Hewitt was perfect from behind the arc going 2 for 2. Sophomore guard Hayley Lowe also got in on the action making two late three-pointers in the big win. Guard Mercedes Smith led the Lady Knights with 3 assists and also had 9 rebounds, 5 points, and 1 block. Sophomore guard Karin Law also had a team high 3 steals while SAU, as a whole, had 15 steals off of 28 Owl turnovers.
St. Andrews out rebounded Warren Wilson 53-33 throughout the game and also had 13 more assists than the Owls (6-4).
The Lady Knights will now make the short jaunt south to challenge NCAA Div. 2 Coker College (SC) this Sunday afternoon at 2 PM.
