COLUMBIA, S.C. - The St. Andrews University Men's & Women's cross country teams competed in the Koala XC Classic in Columbia on Saturday afternoon and came away with some quality individual finishes.

The men did not register a team score in the 8K meet with Div. II Tusculum (TN) winning the meet and Bob Jones U. (SC) coming in 2nd.

Leading the St. Andrews men and coming in 15th overall was junior Eduardo Andrade (JR/Mount Holly, NC) in 31:14 as he was just 2:32 off the top time of the day.

Freshman Austin Hunt (FR/Fairmont, NC) then came in 19th place with a time of 31:32. Freshman Ciaran O'Cleirigh (FR/Costa Rica) then made his season debut and placed 43rd in 35:36 while senior Franco Portillo (SR/Menifee, CA) came in right after in 44th in 35:47.

The women then placed 7th out of 10 teams in the Div.II/NAIA 5K meet. Columbia, Brenau U. (GA) and SAU were the lone NAIA teams competing with Div. I South Carolina winning the meet and Tusculum as the runner-up. Columbia finished third and Brenau sixth just a few points ahead of the Knights who had 188. SAU beat Columbia Int'l, Lander (SC), and Claflin (SC).

Senior Hannah Biddle (SR/Blue Bell, PA) led the Lady Knights with a 19th place finish overall in 22:43 and was third among NAIA schools. Freshman Hannah Adams (FR/New Bern, NC) was then 30th in 23:56 while juniors Nina Havelka (JR/Charlotte, NC) and Kaitlyn Maddox (JR/Flower Mound, TX) were 49th and 51st. Havelka finished in 26:41 and Maddox in 27:12. Junior Shelby Stegall (JR/Indian Trail, NC) made her season debut and ran a time of 31:19 while fellow junior Grace Matonis (JR/Boston Heights, OH) came in with a time of 34:41.

The Cross Country teams will next be competing on Oct. 21 in Hardeeville, SC at the USC-Beaufort Sandshark Invite at 9:00 AM.
