LAURINBURG, NC - The St. Andrews University Football team fell 41-6 to Mid-South Appalachian Division foe University of Pikeville (Ky.) on Saturday in their third home game in school history in front of a crowd of 1,000 fans.

First Half

Pikeville got off to a good start as they drove 32 yards in 5 plays to score on a 15 yard touchdown pass. UPike then extended their lead to 14-0 with a touchdown near the beginning of the second quarter on a 13 yard pass.

SAU drove down deep into Pikeville territory midway through the second quarter, getting all the way to the two on a nice run by running back Bronton Woodard Jr. (FR/Goldsboro, NC) but SAU freshman QB Keyshawn Brown (FR/Virginia Beach, VA) then fumbled the snap turning the ball over.

SAU did complete another SAU Football first as freshman DT Benjamin Houston (FR/Gainesville, FL) blocked their first field goal in school history near the end of the second quarter. He blocked a 43 yarder which was recovered by linebacker Andy Austin.

Pikeville then scored their third touchdown of the day on a 66 yard run early in the third before making it 28-0 with a ten yard scamper from their quarterback with 4:25 to play in the third.

However, the Knights would finally get on the board with 12:20 remaining in the 4th quarter as local Scotland HS talent, RS freshman QB Dashaun Ferguson (FR/Laurinburg, NC), led the Knights on a drive that ended with tailback Trevor McNeil (FR/N. Charleston, SC) carrying the ball into the end zone for an 11 yard touchdown run, his fourth of the season.

Pikeville would then add two more rushing touchdowns in the 4th quarter to make the final 41-6.

Pikeville rushed for 244 yards on the day on 39 carries while SAU carried the ball 44 times for 163 yards. McNeil finished the day rushing for 52 yards on 10 carries while Woodard averaged 12 yards a carry for a total of 36 yards.

Pikeville also threw for 229 yards while SAU led on Kickoff returns with 110 yards. SAU, however, also fumbled the ball four times losing three which cost them points in the end.

Freshmen safeties Nathan Belch (FR/Lyons, GA) and Isaiah Page (FR/Clinton, NC) led the Knights in solo tackles with six apiece. However, Belch led the entire team in total tackles with 12 while he also recorded his second straight game with an interception. Page finished with 7 total tackles.

Freshman linebacker Michael Lundy (SO/Concord, NC) then finished with 8 tackles and 4 solo while recording three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Redshirt freshman LB Andrew Austin (FR/Taylors, SC) also finished with 6 total tackles and four solo while recovering a fumble and a blocked FG.

Freshman DE Darius West (FR/Jacksonville, NC) added 5 tackles while RS freshman CB Justin Hector-White (FR/Charlotte, NC) added six total tackles.

St. Andrews falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the Appalachian Division with the defeat while Pikeville improves to 3-2 and 1-0 in the Division.

St. Andrews will finally get back on the road to face Appalachian Division foe Bluefield College (Va.) (1-3) next Saturday at 6:00 PM.
