FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The St. Andrews University women's volleyball team rallied back to stun nearby Div. II foe Fayetteville State University on the road Friday evening in five sets (22-25, 17-25, 25-23, 28-26, 15-12) to win their fourth straight game overall.

SAU 3, FSU 2

FSU won a tight first set 25-22 behind 13-11 kills. FSU then cruised by the Knights in the second game 25-17 behind 16 kills and a .387 attack percentage and thought they were well on their way to the three set win. However, they would be sadly mistaken.

The Lady Knights came rallying back to absolutely steal the third set 25-23 after trailing 23-21. They scored 11 kills that set as well for the third straight time.

SAU got off to a quick lead in the fourth game leading 10-5 before FSU rallied to lead 22-19 and had two match points as well, but SAU would erase them and go on to steal the fourth set 28-26 on 18 kills.

The Knights then led the majority of the way in the fifth to take it 15-12 on 9 kills and hit .316. SAU had more kills than FSU in the match, 60 to 56 and hit .156.

Senior outside hitter Tessa Smith (SR/Jacksonville, FL) led the team with 18 kills and hit .145 with 13 digs for her 7th double-double of the season. Fellow senior middle blocker Kiah Cheatham (SR/Kalamazoo, MI) then had her best game of the season so far with 17 kills on just one error while hitting .457 with four digs and two blocks. Smith also had 3 assists and a block.

Senior MB Lindsey Wagner (SR/Austin, TX) then added 11 kills as she was the third member of the team with double-digit kills. Wagner had five digs, three blocks, and an ace.

Junior Destiney O'Kane (JR/El Paso, TX) and freshman Kylie Winchell (FR/Morehead City, NC) also combined for seven kills and 7 assists.

Freshman libero Karina Lozada (FR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) led the team with 22 digs and also had 5 assists, one ace, and a kill while senior DS Austin Payne (SR/Kingsport, TN) had 12 digs, an assist and a kill.

Sophomore setters Shalia Powell (SO/Dayton, NV) led with 24 assists with 8 digs and a kill while setter Brooke Thomas (SO/Brunswick, GA) had 14 assists with an ace, four digs, and 3 kills.

SAU improves to 8-4 while FSU falls to 6-5.

St. Andrews will now return home to host new AAC Division foe Brenau University (Ga.) on Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM.
