LAURINBURG, NC - The St. Andrews University Football team rushed their way to their first win in school history over Cincinnati Christian University (OH) on Saturday rolling to a 48-25 win in their inaugural home game.

SAU 48, CCU 25

An enthusiastic crowd of 1,500 people came out to see the Knights offense pile up 338 yards on the ground and 450 total yards as the Knights scored seven touchdowns.

"I am extremely happy for St Andrews and the energy that football brings to the school and the community," said Head Coach David Harper. "I am also happy for the players and coaches for all of their hard work.  As a coach, I am learning to understand what it takes to be successful."

Harper went on to say, "The atmosphere and energy that alumni, students, parents and community created helped us with the win. The coaches and players appreciate their support. I hope that the alumni and the community continue to support us."

First Half

St. Andrews got off to a terrific start from the kick as KR Kendric Ivey (FR/Waxhaw, NC) ran it back to the 50 yard line. The Knights then used two big touchdowns from freshman tailback Trevor McNeil (FR/N. Charleston, SC) to take a 13-0 first quarter lead. The scores were the first offensive touchdowns of the season for SAU.

St. Andrews then extended their lead to 19-0 with another rushing touchdown from freshman RB Chris Decker (FR/Freeport, FL) before CCU got on the board with 3:58 to go in the first half making it 19-7.

However, SAU would not be done as local Scotland HS product, redshirt freshman quarterback Dashaun Ferguson (FR/Laurinburg, NC), scored his first touchdown of the season running it in from six yards out right at the end of the second half to make it 25-7 at the break.

2nd Half

After CCU used up the first 7 minutes of the clock in the second half to make it 25-10, the Knights extended their lead back to 21 points with a nine-yard touchdown run by RS freshman QB Kacey Otto (FR/Mooresville, NC). SAU then got their two-point conversion attempt as Otto passed it to RB Samuel Wright (FR/Austell, GA) to make it 33-10.

CCU then started to come back scoring 15 unanswered points to cut SAU's lead down to 33-25 after the Knights made a huge 4th and 1 defensive stop on the goal line. However, the Knights then used their power running game and huge holes created by the offensive line to reel off two runs of over 60 yards by McNeil and Wright to make the final 48-25.

SAU outgained CCU in total offensive yardage 450-293 including outrushing them 338-141. The Knights also outgained the Eagles by 150 yards in 35 less plays and totaled more first downs as well.

McNeil led the Knights with 136 yards on 14 carries while Wright totaled 97 yards rushing and receiving. Ferguson and Otto combined for 112 yards passing as well on five completions.

Linebacker Christian Scott (FR/Lenoir, NC) and safety Paige Lewis (FR/Chesapeake, VA) each led the Knights in tackles with 10 apiece while DE Darius West (FR/Jacksonville, NC) had 8 tackles (2 for loss) and a sack. CB Marquail Al-Montaser (FR/Goldsboro, NC) also had 6 tackles while DE Bernard Brown (FR/Ladson, SC) had five tackles.

St. Andrews, now 1-2, will enjoy their bye week before remaining at home to host non-division foe Faulkner University (Ala.) on Sept. 23 at 1:30 PM at Knights Stadium.
