LAURINBURG, NC- The St. Andrews University Men's Soccer team won a low-scoring defensive battle 1-0 over Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) in their home opener on Friday afternoon in a NAIA non-conference contest.

The only goal of the game came within the first 15 minutes of play as SAU's senior midfielder Guilherme Soares (SR/Rio de Janiero, Brazil) sent a great ball across the field to a streaking senior forward Ricardo Da Silva (SR/Piracicaba, Brazil) and he easily beat the keeper for a quick 1-0 lead for the Knights.

SAU led in shots in each half and overall 12-9 as they played well throughout on defense keeping BPC (1-2-1) from getting limited scoring chances. SAU had a couple chances to extend their lead in the second half, but would barely miss the net either wide or high.

SAU sophomore keeper Valentino Parini (SO/Milan, Italy) made six saves overall and three huge ones in the first half including back-to-back saves in one sequence.

Da Silva led with three shots while sophomore midfielder Ruben Vaca (SO/Santa Cruz, Bolivia) added two.

The Knights, now back at .500 at 2-2 with their second straight win, will go back on the road to face conference power Bryan College (TN) next Saturday at 2:00 PM.
