LAURINBURG, NC - The St. Andrews University women's volleyball team held off a scrappy Allen University (S.C.) team at home Thursday night as the Knights were able to take the match in four games against their conference division foe.

SAU 3, Allen 1

SAU came out strong hitting .237 on 14 kills in the first set while holding off Allen to take it 25-22. Allen then got out to a big advantage in the second set running out to a 21-13 lead before the Lady Knights stormed back with a huge 12-4 run to tie the game at 25. Unfortunately, Allen went on to win 28-26 behind 17 kills while SAU had 15 kills.

The next two sets were also competitive with SAU squeaking out a 25-23 game three win before running out to a 18-11 lead in game four and holding off the Yellow Jackets to win 25-22 and improve to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the AAC. Allen falls to 2-3 and 0-1 AAC.

Senior outside hitter Tessa Smith (SR/Jacksonville, FL), recorded another double-double leading the team with 14 kills and 18 digs, her 4th double of the season. Smith also added an ace and an assist. Senior middle Lindsey Wagner (SR/Austin, TX) then had 13 kills on just 6 errors to hit .194 with 5 digs and a block assist.

Senior middle blocker Kiah Cheatham (SR/Kalamazoo, MI) then had a quality game hitting a team-best .226 with 10 kills, three digs, one ace, and four blocks while senior RS Andrea Navarro (SR/Salinas, CA) also added 10 kills and hit .161 while also adding 5 blocks, and 4 digs. This was the second match of the year where SAU put four girls in double-figure kills.

Sophomore setter Shalia Powell (SO/Dayton, NV) led the team in assists with 27 while also adding 13 digs and four kills for her third double-double of the season. Fellow sophomore setter Brooke Thomas (SO/Brunswick, GA) finished with 22 assists and nine digs as well. Senior libero/DS Austin Payne (SR/Kingsport, TN) then added 20 digs to lead the team while freshman DS/libero Karina Lozada (FR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) had 14 digs and an ace. Junior middle Destiney O'Kane (JR/El Paso, TX) also played well finishing with 5 kills and four blocks.

St. Andrews (3-3, 1-1) will next go on the road on Tuesday to Raleigh, weather pending, to face Div. III Meredith College (1-3) at 7:00 PM.
