LAKE WALES, Fla. - The St. Andrews University Football team dropped a heartbreaking low-scoring game to their rival, sister school Webber International University, 3-0 on the road Saturday afternoon.

WIU 3, SAU 0

A scoreless first half saw each team struggle inside the red zone with turnovers.  SAU would drive down twice, but turn it over each time. The game would remain scoreless until the fourth quarter when Webber took advantage of another Knight turnover, this time an interception inside the red zone to move the ball 25 yards and get a short field goal to lead 3-0 with 11 minutes to play.

Webber (1-1), unfortunately, would outgain the Knights in total offensive yardage 200-130 as they outrushed the Knights just 114-85 and out-passed them 86-45. The five total turnovers would hinder the Knights in the end as they consistently moved the ball inside the 20s, but could not push across those needed points.

The defense did force three Webber turnovers but SAU could not take advantage of their chances. SAU did lead in special team yardage with 38 yards and in punting yardage with 169 yards. Webber however, totaled more first downs 14-6.

Local Scotland HS product, redshirt freshman quarterback Dashaun Ferguson (FR/Laurinburg, NC), played well overall rushing for 33 yards on the ground including a 17 yard run for the longest of the day for the Knights.

Freshman running back Trevor McNeil (FR/N. Charleston, SC) led the Knights with 41 yards on 11 carries while fellow freshman wide receivers Kashard Cohens (FR/Norfolk, VA) and Tyler Carr (FR/Williamston, NC) combined for 27 yards receiving with RB Samuel Wright (FR/Austell, GA) leading in receiving yards total with 18.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Andy Austin led the team in interceptions with one and had 5 tackles while freshmen DE Darius West (FR/Jacksonville, NC) led the team with 8 tackles, four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Freshman DT Benjamin Houston (FR/Gainesville, FL) then had 3 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble on the day as the defense played well throughout. Freshman DL Bernard Brown (FR/Ladson, SC) then had 6.5 tackles and 3 tackles for loss one sack, one interception, a touchdown, and four tackles. The Knights also finished with 3 sacks overall. West now leads the team in tackles with 14.

St. Andrews (0-2) will next return home for their inaugural home game at their brand new Knights Field on Sept. 9 at 1:30 PM to host Cincinnati Christian University (0-2).
