Pembroke, NC-- The St. Andrews University men's basketball team took to the court for a second straight day Sunday as they made the short jaunt down to UNC-Pembroke to battle the Braves for the second time in 8 days. However, the Knights fell in this exhibition challenge 110-70.
The Knights, to their credit, played much better offensively in this one as they were able to go toe-to-toe with one of the better teams in Division 2 in the second half before falling 55-47.
Junior guard Chris Clay led SAU with 17 points and shot a very impressive 5 of 6 from three point range while freshman guard Mark Chinn made his return to the lineup and shot 4 of 6 for 11 points as he helped provide a spark with 3 of 4 shooting from behind the arc. SAU combined to shoot 8 of 17 from three for 47% in the second half.
Also leading the Knights and having a good all-around game was junior guard Clavontae Brown who had 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Knights freshman center Chris Orr also had 5 blocks on the afternoon for his season high.
However, Pembroke (5-3) came out hot again as they shot 52 % in the first half and jumped out to a 30 point halftime lead. Their defense also limited the Knights to a low shooting percentage in the first half as well. UNCP was led by the impressive game of guard Shamel Brackett who had 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.
St. Andrews remains at 0-8 with the exhibition loss and will finish up their exhibition schedule with a great challenge against East Carolina University this coming Tuesday at 7 pm. The Knights will make the trip up to Greenville, NC to battle the Pirates looking to get more great experience against a quality Division 1 opponent.
