BELMONT, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Softball team finished up their regular season on Saturday by splitting a pair of non-conference games with Div. II Belmont Abbey College on Saturday.

Game One: SAU 6, Belmont Abbey 4

Freshman reliever S.K. Brown (FR/Huntersville, NC) started game one for the Knights and tossed three shutout innings allowing just 3 hits to lower her team-leading ERA to 3.44 before freshman P Brennan Broadaway (FR/Oakboro, NC) (7-10) came on to relieve her in the 4th inning and throw three innings herself but allowed 6 hits and 4 runs on 2 walks. She, however, still came out with the victory as SAU scored 4 runs in the 4th and one each in the 3rd and 5th innings to lead 6-4. Sophomore reliever Nancy Amos (SO/Huntersville, NC) then came on for the 7th and closed the game out with a scoreless frame to pick up her fourth save on the year.

SAU struck first on a Sam Lowder (JR/Stanfield, NC) RBI single in the third inning before Broadaway began the 4th with a solo home run, her first of the year. A Mekayla Valentine (SR/Danville, VA) RBI single then made it 3-0 before senior Brooke Sikes (SR/Warrenton, NC) drove in a run on a fielder's choice. A bases-loaded walk to sophomore OF Rachel Swartwood (SO/Wilmington, NC) then drove in the 4th run of the frame. A two-run homer by BAC in the 4th then cut the lead to 5-2. SAU then added an insurance run on a RBI groundout in the fifth from Valentine that scored senior Kori Ballard (SR/Richmond Hill, SC), who had singled.

SAU had seven different players record a hit while five drove in runs. Ballard led with the only multi-hit game while Broadaway still leads the team with 35 RBIs while hitting .369.

Game Two: BAC 6, SAU 4

Ballard started game two on the mound, but only lasted 2.1 innings allowing six hits and all 6 runs with 2 walks to get the loss falling to 7-10. Broadaway then finished the game allowing just one hit and no runs over the final 3.2 innings.

BAC scored two quick runs in the first innings before SAU came back with a run each in the 2nd and 3rd innings to tie the game at 2. Sophomore DH Lexi Dawson (SO/Garland, NC) doubled in Ballard in the 2nd while Broadaway singled in Lowder in the third.

After BAC took a 6-2 lead after three, the Lady Knights came back with two runs in the 4th on a two-run homer from sophomore Symphony Arguedas (SO/Riverside, CA), her first of the season to cut it to 6-4. SAU would tally a few more hits the rest of the game outhitting the Crusaders 8-7, but could push across no more runs.

Dawson also led the offense going 3 for 3 with an RBI while Arguedas also went 2 for 3. Lowder would also record the other extra-base hit on the day for the Knights. Dawson has now gone 6 for her last 11 to increase her average to .341.

The Lady Knights finish the season at 17-29 overall while Belmont Abbey goes to 10-30-2.

SAU will now prepare for the AAC Tournament as the #8 seed which begins on April 26 in Kingsport, TN. SAU will play top seeded Reinhardt at a yet to be announced time.
