MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Baseball team edged non-conference Div. II Pfeiffer University (NC) 8-6 on the road Tuesday as they stormed out to a big 8-0 lead before hanging on for the win.

SAU 8, Pfeiffer 6

Freshman starting pitcher Davis O'Brien (FR/Kernersville, NC) (4-3) pitched six stellar innings allowing just four hits and one run and only walked one while striking out six to pick up his 4th win to tie for the team lead while also ranking third on the team in strikeouts with 35.

SAU outhit the Falcons 12-8 led by three-hit games from freshmen outfielders Mark Perkins (FR/Concord, NC) and Lee Poteat (FR/Salisbury, NC) including a massive two-homer game from Perkins as he drove in three runs. Senior DH Justin Williams (SR/Stanley, NC) also went 2 for 3 while driving in two runs on RBI singles. Perkins now has 3 homers on the season and is hitting .323 with his career-high 3-hit game. Poteat continues to lead the team with a .386 average as he also drove in a run and knocked a double.

SAU had 7 players record hits while catcher Hunter Hackney (SR/Vanceboro, NC) also drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the 5th to give SAU their 8th and final run. Senior infielders Tiger Miller (SR/Pleasant Garden, NC) and Trey Byrd (SR/Sophia, NC) and junior 2B Alejandro Roque (JR/Bay Area, CA) also recorded hits on the evening.

Junior Relievers Austin Sisley (JR/Covington, WA) and Zach Saylor (JR/Jamestown, NC) finished the game for O'Brien with Sisley allowing 2 hits and 2 runs over 2 innings while Saylor bent, but did not break in the 9th allowing 3 runs before striking out Pfeiffer's Zach Scudder, who had previously homered twice, with runners on base to end the game.

The Knights improve to 21-27 with their second win over Pfeiffer (19-23) this season.

St. Andrews (21-27) will now remain on the road to face conference foe Milligan College (TN) with a three-game series beginning on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. game followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 PM.
