LAURINBURG, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Softball team threw two consecutive shutouts to sweep their conference doubleheader with Bluefield College (Va.) at home Tuesday afternoon winning 8-0 in both six-inning games.

Game One: SAU 8, Bluefield 0

Senior starting pitcher Kori Ballard (SR/Richmond Hill, SC) threw four shutout innings in game one allowing five hits and struck out three, but left with the game still scoreless until SAU put three runs on the board in the 5th and put the game out of reach in the 6th with five more runs. Freshman reliever S.K. Brown (FR/Huntersville, NC) came into the game in the 5th to relieve Ballard and threw two scoreless innings with two Ks to lower her team-leading ERA to 3.44 and pick up the win improving to 2-6.

The Lady Knight offense, that came alive scoring 8 runs in the final two innings, was led by three-hit games from Ballard and freshman SS/P Brennan Broadaway (FR/Oakboro, NC) while Broadaway drove in five runs to lead the team. She, junior 2B Sam Lowder (JR/Stanfield, NC), and senior catcher Brooke Sikes (SR/Warrenton, NC) all recorded doubles as well while Ballard knocked a triple. Also recording multi-hit games were Valentine and Sikes while Sikes and freshman Ascuena Trujillo scored two runs each with Trujillo also driving in two runs.

Game Two: SAU 8, Bluefield 0

Broadaway started game two for the Knights, and threw six shutout innings for her 3rd complete game allowing just one hit and one walk with one strikeout to improve to 6-9 on the season and lower her ERA to 4.62, third-best on the team.

Broadaway also led the offense going 2 for 4 with a run scored as she increased her average to .381 on the season with a team-best 32 RBIs. Ballard also drove in three runs to lead the team while Mekayla Valentine (SR/Danville, VA) drove in two runs. Shortstop Ashlyn Dial (FR/Laurinburg, NC) also recorded a two-hit game while Ballard led with 2 stolen bases. The team, as a whole, stole 8 bases in the game.

The Knights had six different players record hits while five drove in runs including Dial, 3B Nikki Santiago (SO/Gainesville, FL), and Nancy Amos (SO/Huntersville, NC).

The Lady Knights improve to 15-27 overall and 6-12 in the AAC with the sweep while Bluefield falls to 20-16 and 4-12 in conference.

SAU will now remain home to host Reinhardt University (Ga.) on Senior Day Saturday for their final conference games of the season in a 1 p.m. DH.
